Georgia Coastal Chapter of IEHA went red for its February chapter meeting held on the campus of Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA. Members wore all shades of red and accessories to commemorate National Wear Red Day® By doing, we increased awareness regarding cardiovascular disease in women. It’s imperative that women know vital numbers such as their, Total Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI) and how important these numbers are in determining risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease.
Thanks to Diversey, Kimberly-Clark, Thornton Brothers and Jason Long of Nilfisk for vendor presentations on industry topics such as: Combating the Flu, Floor Care Equipment Maintenance, and Creating Exceptional Learning Environments. Special Thanks to Sylvia White and staff of Georgia College and State University for such an excellent campus experience.
Chapter President Gloria Strauthers, REH, of Exodus Management and Consulting, LLC., conducted this month’s training on “Understanding Facility Security.” The importance of protecting people, property and other resources, has garnered more attention than recent years. 80% of active shooter incidents occur in the workplace and approximately 2 million people a year are affected by some form of workplace violence in the US, according to the FBI. To date, the US has experienced 45 mass shooting incidents, according to gunviolencearchive.com.
Furthermore, FBI statistics show that Home Break-Ins (Burglary) are the most common threat to our home. In the U.S. a home burglary occurs every 13 seconds and homes without security systems are up to 300% more likely to be broken into. These alarming trends should give us pause in the re-evaluation of facility/home processes such as access control, fire detection and suppression, emergency and active shooter responses to mitigate vulnerabilities. It’s important to note, that everyone is responsible for facility security and should have some level of awareness regarding potential threats in their environment. Each member in attendance received CEUs for this training. To view the active shooter training click this link- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcSwejU2D0
